Cemeteries of Kauai

Title

Cemeteries of Kauai

Subject

Cemeteries and Gravesites

Description

The Cemeteries of Kauai was published as a result of a grant awarded to Dr. Kikuchi and Susan Remoaldo from the Committee for the Preservation of Hawaiian Language, Art and Culture. Recognizing the importance burials to Hawaiians and other cultural groups living on Kauai, as well as the impending threats of development, it represents the authors' efforts to inventory and document cemeteries, graveyards, and family plots post 1800 for their preservation and protection. Dr. Kikuchi's interest in and inventory of cemeteries began early in his career during the 1970s. The culmination of this interest is the volume on Kauai cemeteries. Please see the archive's other holdings for a more complete representation of his work on cemeteries and gravesites over the course of his career.
